Independent retailers can now offer carrier-grade services for customers
SUNNYVALE, CA - Sept 27, 2007
Silicon Valley mobile content management solutions provider FutureDial is rolling out a hosted mobile content transfer service for independent wireless retailers, which enables stores to easily move customers' private content from their old devices to the new ones, a service much in demand from cell phone purchasers. The new hosted service from FutureDial provides an attractive low-cost solution for retailers who want to offer end user content transfer services in their stores.
Mr. Shu Gan, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Product Management at FutureDial, notes that "studies have shown that approximately 50% of cellphone owners entering a wireless retail store require some type of phone content management service, such as transferring phonebook and private contents when upgrading to a newer phone model. Many wireless retail stores have had limited or no capability to perform these services, so they were losing business because customers did not want to manually re-input all that content into the new phones. FutureDial's new hosted RMS service helps stores close the sale and capture additional revenue by making the transfer service simple and quick, all with an extremely low startup cost and easy store installation."
With a $299 sign-up fee and a service subscription, a retailer receives a startup kit that contains necessary phone data cables plus a software download to the store's PC, so the retailer can start a revenue-generating service in just a few minutes. FutureDial provides complete back-end system management and its central servers automatically upgrade the store's PC with new handset support update packages over the Internet. Store personnel only need to connect a customer's phone with a FutureDial supplied cable or Bluetooth and initiate a content transfer with a few mouse clicks.
Mr. Gan pointed out that wireless retailers who use the FutureDial hosted service will enjoy various benefits:
- Immediate revenue generation and greater customer satisfaction at the point of sale
- Easy to operate, working with most storefront PCs
- Phone model updates to support most of current and future handsets in the market
- Suitable for both large store chains and individual "mom and pop" stores
- No need for corporate back-end IT integration
This hosting service is based on the Retail Management Solution™ or RMS™, an innovative web-based client-server system developed entirely by FutureDial, along with a device support portfolio that includes more than 1000 handset models, covering all top-selling devices, with updates for new handsets added automatically to the RMS program as they enter the market. Several tier-1 wireless carriers have already installed and integrated RMS with their backend IT and billing systems, and launched the service at their retail stores.
To meet the strong demand, FutureDial now makes this carrier-grade service available to independent shops, and to store chains that have not yet decided on a hosted solution but have individual stores that are eager to offer the service. The FutureDial hosted service is initially available in North America, to be followed soon in other markets globally.
For a limited time, existing customers who have previously purchased the FutureDial Retail Device ManagerTM(RDMTM) solution will receive a free software upgrade to migrate to the new hosted RMS platform.

Swisscom customers get easy content transfer on Sicap and FutureDial technologies. For the first time in Europe, an innovative software solution enables mobile content transfer at Swisscom mobile shops.
Switzerland — Monday, August 20, 2007
Sicap AG, a leading provider of device management platforms to wireless carriers, announced today that Swisscom has started rollout of its "EasyTransfer" solution in retail stores throughout Switzerland.
Sicap's Unified Backup & Restore is a carrier grade platform enabling mobile subscribers to backup their phone contents over the air, at home or at the point of sale, whether the content be stored on the device or on the SIM card.
Built on the same technical framework as the Sicap Device Management Center, the "back up and restore" product offering now features technology from U.S. company FutureDial.
Recent studies have shown that it takes an average of 3 month for ARPU to recover after a user loses his phonebook entries or SIM content. Sicap's UBR enables the operator to maintain the ARPU and increase customer loyalty by protecting the phone contents.
FutureDial's Retail Management Solution is the world's first web-based Server/Client Point of Sales (PoS) solution that enables wireless carriers to provide mobile-to-mobile device content transfer services in their stores using local connection (Bluetooth, Cable). With RMS installed, subscribers can transfer all of the mobile contents such as contacts, ringtones, music, photos, and video from their old phone to the new phone they just purchased. In addition to transfer, the RMS also allows users to backup, erase, restore, and print the contents on their handsets.
Swisscom's management looks forwards to the opportunities and benefits provided by the EasyTransfer solution. Head of Terminal Management Lukas Fluri of Swisscom notes that "Solutions like this significantly increases our market advantage that will distinguish Swisscom from the competition, solidify our level of customer loyalty, generate additional revenues and help us win-over new subscribers.
Dominique Schmid, CEO of Sicap adds: "We are excited about teaming up with FutureDial to integrate their technology into our Unified Backup & Restore product. Through this partnership, mobile operators like Swisscom can benefit from our complimentary offerings and from both our knowledge bases to deploy, launch, market and operate backup and restore services over the air or at the Point of Sales (PoS)."
FutureDial's Chairman and CEO, George Huang, comments: "Swisscom understands the operational gains and the Return-On-Investment of using our solution to maximize profitability and productivity in their retail stores. We have worked closely with Swisscom and our partner Sicap so that personnel working in the retail store could easily install and use RMS. We look forward to continued service rollout through our Sicap partnership to rapidly deliver FutureDial technology benefits to millions more end users."

Largest portfolio of supported handsets for wireless carriers and retail stores
SUNNYVALE, CA — July 30, 2007
FutureDial Incorporated, the leading provider of mobile phone content transfer solutions to wireless carriers and retail stores around the world, announced today that it has expanded its portfolio of supported handsets to over 1,000 models compatible with the company’s mobile device management solutions, offering the broadest handset support available in the market.
Hundreds of new mobile phones being launched in the market each year pose a strong challenge for carriers to satisfy subscribers’ demand to transfer contacts and premium contents from old phones to new models at stores. FutureDial’s software solutions, along with the large phone portfolio, enable carriers to fully support the phone models brought into their stores each day for servicing and replacement. These solutions provide carriers with a competitive edge in the marketplace to achieve greater customer satisfaction, convert more store traffic to sales, and enable revenue-generating new services. FutureDial’s handset portfolio includes all the top-selling phone models in North America, Europe, and many Asian Pacific markets, spanning more than 30 major handset manufacturers. Meanwhile, FutureDial continues to rapidly expand its handset portfolio by 100+ new models each month, with its expertise in developing handset Dynamic Link Libraries (DLLs) .
George Huang, CEO of FutureDial, explains: “Last year more than 400 million subscribers visited retail
stores in Europe and North America, and about 50% of them required some type of content transfer, backup, or erase service. Since many stores had limited or no capability to do these services, the negative effect on customer satisfaction was quite high, and it became a hurdle for carriers and the store front to upgrade subscribers to the latest models. FutureDial’s solutions and broad support of numerous handset models address this obstacle by making the transfer service simple to operate, and by supporting all the valuable content which a subscriber has on the handset.”
Through its web-based client-server software solution, FutureDial provides updates to carriers and wireless retail stores through an automated process that works in the background to keep stores up-to-date with the latest handset models launched on the market, as well as older legacy models which need servicing. These and other features and benefits have solidified FutureDial’s position in the industry as a leading provider of mobile device content transfer solutions for carriers and wireless retailers worldwide.

Unlocks €6 billion in potential retail store revenue
SUNNYVALE, CA — Feb 12, 2007
Today at the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, FutureDial Inc. announced immediate availability of its new Retail Management Solution™ (or RMS™) Version 3.0, a completely web based solution for mobile-to-mobile device content transfer and backup.
RMS is the ideal solution for carriers that want to increase retail store revenue and customer satisfaction. RMS is a web based solution for transferring all of a customer’s mobile content (contacts, ringtones, music, photos, and video) from an old phone to a new phone, and supports nearly all the handsets in the carrier’s market. Simple to install and maintain, almost all processes are automated (software updates, configuration, and new phone support), and the user interface is easy to learn, with transfers requiring only a few clicks.
There were more than 300 million phone upgrades in Western Europe and North America in 2006, and all of these customers required a transfer, which equates to €3 billion ($1.8 billion US) in revenue. While transfer revenue averages €10 in Western Europe and $6 in North America, full content transfer could go as high as €15 ($12) in some countries. This represents over €6 billion (about $8 billion) in potential retail store revenue in 2007. In addition, RMS supports backup and restore, which are critical functions when more than 70 million phones are lost or stolen in Western Europe and North America every year.
It is not just lost revenue when a customer’s content cannot be moved to the new phone, in the worst case it is a lost customer. Data shows that in 2006 more 435 million subscribers visited retail stores in Europe and North America, and that approximately 50% required some type of content transfer, backup, or erase. Since many retail stores have limited or no capability the negative effect on customer satisfaction was extremely high. RMS addresses this issue by making the transfer activity simple and quick, and by supporting all the valuable content a subscriber has on the handset.
FutureDial points out that the revenue opportunity is clearly understood; the problem has always been building a product that could be used effectively in a retail store. The company worked with a number of carriers in designing RMS so that personnel working in the retail store could easily install and use the product, and still meet customer expectations.
