Swisscom Pioneers Over-the-Air Transfer of Mobile Content

November 12, 2007:
As the name implies, Swisscom’s Easy Transfer is all about simplifying the transfer of mobile phone assets over the air, at home, or at point of sale. Subscribers can now transfer mobile content — contacts, ringtones, music, photos and video — from existing to newly purchased phones.
Behind the ability is a one-two punch of Unified Backup and Restore (UBR) from Sicap, and a retail management solution (RMS) from FutureDial Inc. The products work together to empower users, from their handsets to transfer the materials as well as backup, erase, restore and print features. The transfer will work for content residing on devices or on SIM cards.
By integrating the UBR and RMS software capabilities to its handsets, Swisscom hopes to maintain ARPU and increase loyalty among its 4.6 million customers. The company’s partner, Sicap, recently found in research that mobile operators take a three-month hit to ARPU when users lose phone book entries or SIM content. Swisscom said it believes it can mitigate such losses with superior device management through mobile-to-mobile device content transfer it will now provide in all of its stores.
