What is a Prolific USB Cable?
This is a cable that is made exclusively for FutureDial software. The cable can be distinguished by a black box in the middle of the length of the cable. Please note – this cable has only been tested to work on FutureDial software.
I have the USB data cable and want to use my phone as a modem, how can I do this?
You need to have the USB drivers which either came with your cable, or are available as a free download from our website. In addition to this, you will need to have the program called SnapDialer. SnapDialer will allow you to use the USB drivers to install the drivers for the prolific USB data cable.
When I try to download the USB drivers, I am being told to enter a serial number, what is that and where can I get it?
The serial number comes from the FutureDial software package, SnapSync, SnapDialer or SnapMedia. Once you have registered the serial number, you will be able to download the USB drivers that are specific to your phone. There needs to be a registered serial number in order to get the USB drivers from our website.

Installation/Troubleshooting
How do I install the USB Drivers?
There are two options for installing the USB drivers for this cable. The two options depend on where you get the USB drivers. They are located on the Support section of our website under the Downloads option. The other place is from the CD itself.
Installing Drivers found on the FutureDial website:
Look for the Support and then the Download section. Once you enter your serial number and email address, you will be given an option to download USB drivers. Download this file to your computer. Choose the Save option.
Find this file. Double click on it. There should be an option to Install USB Drivers. Choose that option. If your specific phone is not listed – pick any Motorola V60 phone. Any FutureDial cable with that black box is able to use the same USB Drivers.
Install the USB drivers and then connect your cable to the computer. The computer should have an Add New Hardware Wizard and then automatically install the USB Drivers.
To test if the USB drivers have been installed, get into your Device Manager.
Click on the plus sign next to Ports.
If the USB Drivers are installed you will see FutureDial USB to Serial Device or Prolific USB to Serial Device. This device should be assigned to a certain COM port.
To install the USB drivers using a FutureDial software CD:
Insert the FutureDial software CD into the drive. A menu will open up automatically. Choose Install USB Drivers. There will be an option to pick your phone. If your phone is not listed, choose any Motorola V60 phone. All FutureDial cables that have the black box in the middle of the length of the cable uses the same USB Drivers.
Connect your cable to the computer.
This is a USB cable, why is it assigned to a COM port?
The computer will take a device that connects to the computer and assign it a COM port. When you are checking for which port the device is connected to, you are looking for a COM port and not a USB port number.
I have run the USB Installer and my computer is not recognizing my phone when I plug it into the computer.
First we have to see if the USB drivers were installed properly. Go into the Device Manager
Look under Ports for a “Prolific USB to Serial” or “FutureDial USB to Serial” device. (The cable is installed correctly if you see either of these devices).
If you don’t see the above devices look under Other Devices or Universal Serial Bus Controllers for an Unknown Device. Remove this device by using your right mouse button to click on it, choose the Remove or Uninstall option and restart your computer. If the Device continues to not be recognized by your computer, there is probably a hardware issue, either the USB port, the cable or the phone itself.
How do I install the modem to connect to the internet?
You need the software called SnapDialer. Click here to see if your phone is supported. [Insert link to Snapdialer supported phones]

SnapSync
What can I do if SnapSync is not reading my phone?
Make sure the USB drivers are installed properly and also make sure that SnapSync has been updated to support your phone model. Disable any software that links to an external device such as ActiveSync or HotSync.
How do I know if my SnapSync software has been updated to support my phone?
Different versions of SnapSync will support your phone. There is a file on your computer that you can check to see if your phone has been updated. It is called the SnapSync.ini file. Click here for more information on how to find this file.
If your phone is not listed – do the update from the FutureDial website. Go to www.futuredial.com. Look for Support and then Downloads. Once you enter your Serial Number and email address, you should be able to download a SnapSync update.
This should add your phone model as a supported phone.
The software is asking me for a COM port and phone model, what do I do?
If the software is asking for a COM port and phone model, there are two things to try. First, pick the correct COM port and phone model. The USB drivers assign a USB spot to a particular COM port, even if a USB cable is being used.
Click here for more information on how to find your Device Manager. The USB section will have more information on where to look for the COM port.
Also – if the software is asking for a COM port and phone model, that usually indicates a device conflict. Usually a program like HotSync or ActiveSync using up a COM port causes this.
